Old Hill Street Police Station, Singapore

Formerly known as the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts Headquarters, the Old Hill Street Police Station now houses the Ministry of Communications and Information and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. Gazetted as a national monument, this heritage building is a blend of the old and new, incorporating modern amenities while complying with stringent conservation requirements. Its key architectural wisdom is seen in the adaptive reuse of spaces and the restoration of elements of architectural merit.

Other conservation projects that CPG has worked on include Singapore’s oldest functioning fire station – Central Fire Station, the Singapore Art Museum and the Asian Civilisations Museum, the old Parliament House (now known as The Arts House), a former Malay palace in Kampong Glam that was renovated to serve as the Malay Heritage Centre, as well as National Gallery, Singapore.

Project Member Quotes

I’m proud of the pioneering work that our people did together with the URA’s guidance in the adaptive reuse of this whole slate of historic buildings. We have shown that even for a small nation state such as Singapore, it was possible not to knock down old buildings but give them a new lease of life instead.
